Pyrenees Jazz Orchestra is the first cross border orchestra in Europe
Started in 2003, bringing together the best musicians in Aquitaine, Navarre and the Basque Country.
It has received cross border Cooperation Fund subsidies from the AQUITAINE REGIONAL COUNCIL, the NAVARRE GOVERNMENT, and the BASQUE GOVERNMENT, as well as receiving European Funds from FEDER / INTERREG programme for Culture and Education.
In 2003/2004 it toured main Theatres and Auditoriums in the Aquitaine-Basque-Navarre region.
In 2003, AGORILA in Bayonne helped them to release their first CD which includes 11 original tracks by members of the Orchestra.
In 2005, in addition to performing at different Jazz Festivals, they held 2 concerts in the Kursaal Auditorium in San Sebastian and the Gayarre Theatre in Pamplona with the trumpeter Randy Brecker, prestigious North American musician.
They also recorded the Orchestra’s second CD called “Transatlantic connection".
"Transatlantic connection" was published in May 2006. The disk comprises 11 tracks including music by Randy Brecker, Iñaki Askunze, Ruper Ordorika, Pat Metheny and Herbie Hancock, among others.
